A guide to choosing a microphone

The speech and repetition exercises within StepByStep have the option for the person with aphasia to record their own attempt when doing an exercise.

This could be useful in circumstances where they are trying to improve their self-monitoring skills, where the person can compare their own attempt to the computer to judge whether they are close to the target. To record sound, you will need a microphone. Although some laptops have microphones built in, we suggest that you use a microphone that you plug-in, in order to get a better quality recording.

There are many different types of microphones to choose from. We hope this guide will help you to select the best for your particular needs. All the following examples are available from Amazon. It is a good idea to look at the reviews before purchasing.
